Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or lens has an irregular curvature — causing blurred or distorted vision at all distances. It is extremely common and highly correctable.

What Causes This?
- Corneal irregularity — most common (corneal astigmatism)
- Lenticular astigmatism from lens shape
- Genetic — often present from birth
- Irregular astigmatism from keratoconus or corneal scarring

Toric lenses in glasses correct astigmatism fully.
Toric Contact Lenses
Toric soft contacts correct most astigmatism.

Can astigmatism worsen over time?
Most stable astigmatism changes slowly. Rapidly worsening irregular astigmatism warrants evaluation for keratoconus.
